How to Be Promoted

Moreover, it is required [as essential and demanded] of stewards that one be

found faithful and trustworthy.

1 Corinthians 4:2 AMP

Have you ever wanted to be used by God? Have you ever asked, “How does God choose whom He will use?” While it is true that God loves everyone, it is also true that God is not constrained to use every person He loves. Please do not assume that having a large platform of followers, money, position, or power means that God greatly uses someone. There are reasons why God may use some more than others.

Today’s passage tells us that God uses the faithful. Being faithful means that a person is reliable, dependable, authentic, and unfailing. But how does God determine whether a person has those characteristics? Paul tells us that a steward must be found faithful. Without a doubt, God watches over us for a long time and in many circumstances to see if we are faithful, reliable, dependable, trustworthy, authentic, and unfailing.

Like a secular employer would observe employees to determine who is trustworthy to handle a big assignment, or a teacher would observe students to determine a class leader, God does the same. He watches to determine on whom He can depend.

God is watching how we treat people. Do we lift holy hands on Sunday and curse out our spouse or children on the way to church? Are we demeaning to employees but espouse the love of God with beautiful words? God is watching to observe how we respond to pressure, whether we have the persistence to push through distractions, and how we perform in areas from the inside out. 1 Samuel 16:7 NKJV reminds us that humankind looks at the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart.

When God looks at you, what does He see? Do you make it easy for God to say, “Now there is a person I can trust with the next big assignment!” Big assignments are not only massive in size, but they could also be assignments that require significant time or effort. Since God is watching, take a good look at yourself and determine what God is finding as He is watching what you do, the promises you make, and how well you obey Him and His Word.

If you want to move into a higher realm of responsibility that holds more exciting and significant assignments in life, do everything you can to be found faithful in what you are doing right now. When God has found you faithful in your present project, you have your best guarantee that a door will soon open for you to step through so you can walk out the dream He placed in your heart.

Talk it over with a close friend or your parents. Consider your life right now. What is the primary assignment that God has given you? Perhaps it is a work assignment, a relationship assignment, or an assignment to deal with a personal issue. How would you rate your present performance on a one to ten scale? If not being faithful, what do you need to do differently?

Father God, I confess that I have not been as diligent as I needed to be in the assignments You have given me. I understand that You are watching and waiting for me to be found faithful. I ask that You make my thoughts agreeable to Your Will and You create in me both the desire and the ability to do what pleases You in Jesus’ Name.
